Frequently Asked Questions about TADs

It works as an anchor in order to move specific teeth, and in some cases, they can be used instead of headgear and other appliances that may be placed outside of the mouth.

TADs allow your orthodontist to treat cases faster and more effectively than ever before, and if this treatment method has been recommended to you, you may have some questions.

How Will the TAD Be Positioned?

The process is quite simple. Generally, the soft tissue that sits over where the TAD is to be placed will be numbed. Then, after you aren't able to feel anything, the TAD will be put into place. Once inserted, the TAD serves as immovable object that will be able to lift, pull, or push the desired teeth into their intended position.

Is the Treatment Painful?

Typically, there is minimal pain and discomfort associated with getting a TAD. However, some patients state that they experience some pressure for one to two days after the procedure. In other cases, the teeth can be more sensitive than usual, but very few patients have reported that they need to use pain medications to relieve their discomfort.

How Long Will the TAD Need to Stay In?

These anchorage devices are intended to only be temporary. Typically, they will remain in the mouth for a few months and will be removed when they are no longer needed to assist with the movement of the teeth.

How Should I Care for My TAD?

Your oral hygiene routine won't change much once your TAD has been put into place. However, you will likely be given an antibacterial solution that you can use to brush it twice per day using a soft brush in order to ensure that it stays clean.

Please contact us if you have any questions about a TADs effect on your oral health.
