Are your teeth crooked, gapped, or crowded together? If so, you may be considering braces in order to fix the problem, but there are several different options from which you can choose.

By considering the pros and cons of each, you can choose the method that is right for you.

Traditional Braces

Traditional metal braces have been used for decades as a way to straighten the teeth. This is what people typically think about when they consider braces. They are the least expensive option, but they also tend to be the most noticeable.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces will do the same thing as traditional braces, and they consist of basically the same hardware. However, the brackets and will be placed on the back of your teeth, making them virtually invisible. Unfortunately, they are more expensive and difficult to clean, and they may not be right for severe cases. Additionally, they can be hard to get used to and could cause you to cut your tongue.

Ceramic Braces

These braces are about the same shape and size as traditional metal braces, but they will include clear or tooth colored brackets that are less noticeable and blend in with your teeth. Some options, even use tooth-colored wires in order to be less noticeable. Brackets do stain easily, so if you choose this option you will need to commit to caring for them well.

Invisalign

This system consists of a series of 18-30 clear aligners made out of soft plastic. They are replaced every two weeks and are removable, so you'll be able to take them out when you drink or eat. They are best suited for minor orthodontic issues, although they are the most expensive option.

They can also be easily lost, and while they may be good options for teens and adults, an option is not yet available for children. Need help deciding which option is right for you? Contact our office today.
