An orthodontic evaluation does not have to be met with dread! Think of it as the opportunity to provide your child with perfectly aligned teeth that will benefit his health, not to mention his self-esteem. Even if you think your child’s teeth are straight enough, an evaluation is often warranted to determine if his bite is properly aligned. A misaligned bite can cause many more issues than you may ever consider. If you want your child to enter his adulthood with good oral health and minimal issues, an orthodontic evaluation around the age of 7 is typically recommended, however, no child is too old to come in for the first time!

The Consultation

The first consultation with our orthodontist is painless and informative! It provides you with the information you need to determine what you need to consider for your child. We are here to educate parents and children so that everyone is on the same page. We will start the process off by evaluating your child’s oral health history, which will be provided by his general dentist. We will also take a look at your child’s medical history as oral and physical health do affect one another. In addition, we will perform our own exam of your child’s mouth, which may include x-rays so that we can see all angles of your child’s bite and how it is affecting his oral health.

Eliminate Dental Anxiety

Many parents and children have anxiety about seeing the orthodontist. They have preconceived notions in their minds about braces, what to expect, and the amount of pain they will experience. We want you to know that orthodontic technology has come a long way in recent years and the only way you will know what to expect is to come in and find out. We will help you evaluate all of your options, choosing the one that is right for your child’s maturity level and ability to handle pain. We will also work with parents and their financial restrictions in order to ensure that every child receives the orthodontic care that they need without stressing parents out financially. Our staff is very friendly and able to handle even the most anxious patient, showing them that orthodontics is a great way to enhance oral health.

Listen to the Treatment Plan

The best thing you can do when you come in for your child’s orthodontic evaluation is listen to our treatment plan options. We will do our best to educate you on all of the options available to ensure that you understand what you would be putting your child through. We have the best interest of everyone at heart and will not provide treatment that will be incredibly painful or difficult to bear. Every child and parent is educated every step of the way to ensure that everyone knows what to expect and how to handle it. Every case is different, which is why it is impossible for us to tell you what to expect at your visit – we will have to determine the needs on an individual basis.

The best thing you can do for your child is bring him in for the orthodontic evaluation. This will allow you to have a full understanding of your child’s oral health and if his misaligned bite is affecting his smile, ability to chew, ability to sleep, or will provide future issues. Once you are armed with the appropriate information you can then make the decisions with or for your child to enhance his oral health.
